Happy weekend my dears! I am teaching a photography breakout session at the Lucky Fabb conference today with Kimberly Genevieve. Here's an instagram that Kim took of me at the conference. If you're attending, I hope you'll come say hi!
LUCKY FABB WEST
I am very excited to announce that I will be speaking at the year's Lucky FABB conference on April 4th-5th in LA! I will be teaching an hour long breakout session on blog photography with fellow photographer Kimberly Genevieve. We will be covering everything you need to know about getting beautiful images for your blog, whether it be style shots or vignettes. We'll give you all the professional tips and tricks, so that your blog stands out. Also side note- Drew Barrymore is one of the keynotes! It's going to be so fun. I sure hope to see you there!
If you would like to attend, e-mail FABBTicketing@gmail.com with your full name and blog URL with the subject “FABB West Tickets”. Lucky will go through each entry and be in touch.
LUCKY FABB
As someone who has been blogging for two years now, I am no beginner. Don't get me wrong I have PLENTY to learn about blogging, but the conference topics I was hoping to delve into with bloggers and retailers I admire were simply brushed over. Most of the day was spent talking to celebrities, and as much as I love all of those ladies I didn't feel they had much to offer me in terms of blogging. I hope you realize I mean that in the most respectful way. In terms of the panels, there were interesting and informative conversations being had that just didn't get to play them selves out due to time. This is coming from someone who went to a hippie school for twelve years, but wouldn't it be nice to have more of a discussion instead of a panel? I'd love to get down and dirty on the business of blogging. I guess that's what friends or Blog Brunch are for.
In the afternoon I attended Bri Emery's break-out session on taking your blog to the next level. I really enjoyed what she had to say and think her advise was spot on. I thought I would share some of the main points from her talk.
Look & Act Legit:
-Spend the time/money on making your blog beautiful. Have it designed or learn how yourself. The more professional your site looks, the more readers will take you seriously and companies will want to advertise.
-Get business cards made.
-Have a media kit ready to send out to all perspective advertisers.
-Create an email signature with your blog logo.
Design:
- All photos should be the same pixel width. People will spend more time on your site if the layout is clean.
- Learn how to add text to posts and make pretty collages & layouts.
- Pick three fonts and stick to them.
- Pick three fonts and stick to them.
Content:
-Your blog should be 80% created content and 20% recycled.
-Utilize your creative friends by having them contribute to your blog in exchange for one of your skills.
-Try switching blogs every week with one of your favorite blogger friends.
At the end of the day I had an incredible time enjoying inspiring conversation and cocktails with fellow bloggers. The Annenberg Beach House is a gorgeous venue and as you can see above had been decked it out by Zappos with the most killer styling. It was like The Coveteur meets the natural history museum with some Liberty London thrown in. Doesn't it make you want to start integrating your favorite accessories into your home decor? After saying goodbye to everyone at the conference I had a warm and fuzzy feeling about my fellow bloggers. I love what blogging has brought to my life and being part of such a creative community. You all motivate and encourage me daily.
LUCKY ME
Yesterday was the LuckyFabb conference at the beautiful Annenberg Beach House and I must admit I am pretty exhausted. It has been three days filled with networking events and blogger meet-ups and while I ultimately had a great time, I need some time to recuperate. I have lots to share about my experience, but I want to take a day to gather my thoughts on it all. xo
