LATELY

Today I am driving up north to meet a few friends before we head up to Tahoe. It's a long drive to do alone, but I've made sure I've got music and a few audiobooks to keep me company.
As this year comes to a close I can't help but get sentimental. I don't want my breakup to overshadow what an incredible year I've had. I try to remind myself that one day, I'll look back on this time and be grateful for all the lessons it's taught me. Every sadness or disappointment that I've had in my life has brought me somewhere even better than I could have imagined. A day will come where everything will feel right, and all of this will make sense. Here is a little look at my life of late and a few of the sweet things making me smile...

The quote "when one door closes another one opens" has rung very true for me these days. The last few weeks have brought on all kinds of interesting opportunities and photo jobs and I couldn't be more grateful. It feels like the universe is at work.
I'm quite happy the weekend is here, aren't you? I'm looking forward to finishing up my Christmas shopping and spending time with friends. Here is a little look at my life of late and a few of the sweet things making me smile...

LATELY

The last few weeks have been emotional and challenging, but they have also overwhelmed me with blessings. I usually find it hard to lean on others when times are tough. I like to feel like I can handle things on my own. Maybe it's experience or turning thirty, but this time, I haven't been afraid to ask for the support of my friends and family to get me through. They have all been there for me and I will be forever grateful. It's times like these that make you think about what you really want in life and how far you've come. I like where I'm headed. This has been one of the toughest weeks of my life. I am not exactly ready to talk about what's going on, but in the midst of all my sadness I felt like it was important to reflect on the positive. I hope to feel ready to share more with you next week, but for now please except the cryptic nature of this post. Happy weekend! Friday is here and I've got quite a packed weekend ahead of me. Tonight I'm celebrating a dear friend's birthday and tomorrow I've got a baby shower, a photo shoot and a Halloween party to attend. All fun stuff though. What about you, any plans for the weekend? James and I just went apple picking for the first time, and if you haven't been I highly recommend it. It felt great to get out of the city for the day and explore a new place. Maybe it was my recent trip to Ojai or a mid-week concert with friends, but these last few weeks have seemed to fly by. Overnight it suddenly feels like fall in LA and I am starting to get excited about cozy dinners at home, the first fire of the season and spiced cider. There is nothing I love more than this time of year. I'm trying to take full advantage of these autumnal days, because I'm sure they wont last. Any fun plans for the weekend? For the first time in a long time I don't have any plans and I'm pretty thrilled about it. Maybe I'll catch up on all my blog reading or get a head start on holiday shopping. Here is a little look at my life of late and a few of the sweet things making me smile...

It has been such a busy few weeks that I barely had enough instagram photos for a lately post. I've been working on lots of cool projects, but I am having trouble finding time to do the simple things like eat or instagram {apparently}. There's no end in sight quite yet because I'm spending the next few days in Ojai helping my parents with a major garage sale/fundraiser for my old school. As soon as Sunday rolls around life will start to mellow out a bit. Next week my dear friend Teissia will be in town for a wedding she planned. Even though she's here for work, I hope to get some relaxing time in as well. Here's a little look at my life of late and a few of the sweet things making me smile...

The last few weeks have been truly amazing. New York was perfect from start to finish and a lot of that is thanks to my sister Merry and my dear friend Teissia. I couldn't have asked for a better birthday. I promise photos from our trip are coming next week. Since returning life has been hectic to say the least and haven't yet had time to look through them. But I guess that's what this weekend will be for, along with some mandatory relaxation. Any fun plans this weekend? I'm looking forward to spending more time with my sister Sarah, brother in law and my nephew who are in town from Italy. I don't get to see them nearly enough, so I'm treasuring every bit of time I get to spend with them.

IPHONEOGRAPHY

Like so many others, Instagram is by far my most used and favorite iphone app. People often ask me how I edit my photos on my phone, so I though I would share my process. I've waisted many dollars on photo apps, but really only use these three...

1. Snapseed has one of my most loved features- the straighten feature. In the past I wouldn't post photos when lines were off or a window was crooked, but now with this app I can make them perfectly straight. I also love that you can brighten, add contrast or saturation to a section of the photo rather than the whole thing.
2. VSCOcam is by far my favorite photo editing app, because the filters emulate film. Ever since this app came on the scene I rarely use instagram filters. You can also use the app to lighten, add contrast, saturation, etc.
3. TouchRetouch is genius. I just found out about the app a month or so ago and it has changed my life.  You can remove anything unwanted from a photo, sort of like you would in photoshop. In this photo I removed a speaker and a fire alarm, which would have taken the focus away from my subject.

Happy weekend my dears. Sorry I'm a little late at posting this. We don't have internet where we're staying, so I'm currently at an adorable cafe sipping coffee and using their free wifi. So far New York has been completely dreamy. We've been spending time with old friends, eating incredible food and soaking up the culture. I couldn't ask for a better way to ring in my thirties. What a week! As you may have noticed, Sweet Thing was down for over 48 hours. I'll save you the boring details, but it involved many calls to the tech support team, who ended up not being any help. I ended up finding tutorials online and on youtube that eventually helped me fix the issue myself. It's somewhat upsetting that the eight tech professionals I spoke to could not figure out the problem, but it feels so empowering that I DID.
Other than blog drama, my week was really lovely. I've been filling my time by working on a photo project that involves my father's photographs. I can't divulge the details just yet, but it feels good to working on something that will be a wonderful piece of family history. The last few weeks have felt extra summery. I love when the temperature is just right in the evenings where you can wear short sleeves and not bring a jacket. After coming down from the high of our vacation, I've been slowly acclimating to our life in LA. Before we left I felt so organized and on top of things work wise, but inevitably after taking a week off I'm now struggling to get back on track. My goal this weekend is to get ahead again- respond to all emails, finish all my photo retouching for clients, put together a few blog posts and unpack my suitcase {I know, it's about time}. Wish me luck! Here is a little look at my life of late and a few of the sweet things making me smile...

We have arrived in Martha's Vineyard and I can't tell you how happy I am to be here. In fact I can't wipe this smile of my face. Our first night there was the most romantic thunder and lightening storm to welcome us. The air is so humid I can already feel my skin soaking up the moisture and my hair getting curlier by the minute. This weekend we are planning on spending as much time at the beach as possible {weather allowing} and enjoying a quintessential lobster dinner with my family. Pure bliss. The last few weeks have been all over the place with emotions. On the first day of our trip up north I got some very upsetting news about a family member's health. Because my thoughts were elsewhere, it made it difficult for me to fully enjoy our time away. Sometimes I think photographing my life and travels takes me out of the moment, because I'm so consumed with capturing it. But on this trip, it's what helped me feel at peace. Photographing the lush scenery and even the simplest details helped me remember how blessed I am and how much beauty there is in my life.
On a lighter note...I hope you all have a perfectly summery weekend filled with delicious food, laughter and friends. Here is a little look at my life of late and some of the sweet things making me smile...

Since I'm heading up north today, I decided to take tomorrow off and post "Lately" a day early. Even though we are spending all of next week in Marin, I will still be blogging and I have a couple really great guest posts lined up. You can also follow me on twitter and instagramfor updates on our trip.

It's easy to get overwhelmed as a freelance photographer and graphic designer, but these last few weeks I've gotten to a place where I feel pretty organized and balanced. I can't tell you how good that feels. Don't get me wrong, I am far from having it all figured out. There are so many things I wish I was better at, like responding to emails on time or making sure we have fresh groceries in the house. I just don't have time to accomplish everything, but I'm sure getting better at it.
This weekend is shaping up to be pretty great. I have two friends in town who are both celebrating their birthdays and our plans consist of sipping cocktails and laying by their hotel pool. Not bad, eh? What are your plans for the weekend?

Happy Friday! Can you believe that Memorial Day weekend is here? It's been a pretty hectic few weeks, but thankfully things have started to slow down. The weather has been near perfect lately so to ease the pain of working on the computer all day, I've been opening all my windows and letting the outside in. I have managed to enjoy some time away from works as well. I got to spend a slightly late mother's day with my mom, go on some adventures with my boyfriend and friends and even spend the day at a friend's rooftop pool. Here is a little look into my life of late and a few of the sweet things making me smile...

The last few weeks have been a total whirlwind. Juggling both work and socializing can get tough when you freelance, but with each year I'm getting better at finding that balance. My friend Teissia is staying with us through the weekend and I am loving having her here. Even though she is here for work, we are making sure to sneak in time together as well. Do you have any plans this weekend? I have a few fun things planned. I'm shooting a blog project with a friend and going to see Rufus Wainwright at the Orpheum. It all sounds quite delightful. Somehow it's Friday, which means LuckyFabb is only three days away. Are any of you going to be there? These conferences rarely happen in LA, so I'm feeling pretty excited that this one's so close. I'm mostly excited about getting to meet some of my blogger friends in person. There is something soothing about having so many people in one room that can understand and relate to your blogging life. It can also feel quite lonely at these things if you don't know anyone. Sometimes the blogging world can feel like one big clique that you're not part of. If any of you are planning on attending I urge you to come and say hi. I'd love to meet you!

HELLO

Hello my dears, this is a little sneak peak of the photo shoots I've been working on this week. Things have been a little busy, but I wanted to check in and say hi. I can't wait to share more images with you next week!
