Looking through these photos taken outside my house in Martha's Vineyard makes me ache for the lush greenery. All that green does come at a price though- lots of rain. On one of the cloudy, rainy days, all I could do to tame my wavy locks was throw on a hat {and dream about taking my dad's vespa out for a drive}. Ok the vespa has nothing to do with my hair, I just love that mint color...

SWEET STYLE. BEACH DAY

While in Martha's Vineyard, the weather teetered between cloudy and humid and warm and perfect. On those warm and perfect days we headed to Lucy Vincent beach. I enjoyed every minute of lounging under an umbrella, digging my feet in the sand and listening to the waves crash. I also couldn't put down Bossypants which turned out to be the perfect beach read. I could not stop laughing to myself, which is always a good sign. I often found James looking over at me concerned I may have lost my mind. No, just Bossypants...

Our time in Martha's Vineyard, as always in the summer, has been jam packed with social events. The other night, we headed to a friend's house for an annual BBQ. The humidity was in full effect, so I opted for a top knot. I paired it with my trusty chambray shirt and high-waisted trousers for a summery, menswear inspired look...

THE GLITTER GUIDE LAUNCH PARTY

Guess what? I am blogging from the sky- flying from San Francisco to Martha's Vineyard. Afton and I had the best time on our trip, it just wasn't long enough. SWEET STYLE. MARIN WEDDING

Our weekend in Marin, although short, was exactly what I needed. The weather and the scenery couldn't have been more beautiful. The wedding was held at James' families ranch, which is a breathtaking property near Point Reyes. It was quite windy that day but the sun peaked out of the clouds just as the wedding began and warmed us up just enough. I wore one of my favorite rebecca taylor dresses and some wedges to keep me from sinking in to the dirt. James and I went over to say hi to Oliver {the horse} and snap a few photos before the reception began...

A few weeks ago, our friends Phil and Afton, the boyfriend and I attended a little Flashdace soirée at Malo. I wore a dance friendly dress perfect for twirling and threw my hair up in Heidi braids to keep it off my face. We danced, we laughed, we snapped photos in the Smilebooth. SWEET STYLE. A SPRING AFTERNOON

You will have to excuse my lack of "sweet style" posts the last few months. Between my photographer/boyfriend's crazy work schedule and my life pretty much belonging to my computer these days, doing photoshoots has not been our priority. Anyway, I decided to set up my tripod in my front yard, put my camera on self timer mode and snap a few of myself. And yes I felt like a total nerd. I can manage the close-ups but the full body shots never come out right. Ah well. 

It was a perfect sunny day, so I wore a few of my favorite spring/summer trends...a 70's inspired tie blouse {remember I like those?}, high-waisted jeans, fuchsia lipstick and green nail polish...

SWEET STYLE. HUNTINGTON GARDENS

The boyfriend's parents were in town this weekend, so we decided to show off this fine city of ours and take them to some of our favorite places, along with some places we've been meaning to check out. Saturday was pretty perfect, we had brunch at Canelé, spent the afternoon at The Huntington Botanical Gardens, had dinner at Umami Burger, and went to see the Fleet Foxes. The Huntington Gardens in Pasadena is one of those places I've been meaning to visit for ages. Annie even included it in her "sweetest day," and for good reason- It is 207 acres of botanical gardens, with 14,000 different varieties of plants. It's truly a breathtaking sight, especially right now with the roses in full bloom. Although, I think my favorite part would have to be the hot house. I have a weakness for succulents, I just love the colors and textures. I will definitely be coming back here since the admission is free the first Thursday of every month. It is just the place to go when you need to get away from the city and reconnect with nature...

I just can't believe it, Sweet Thing turns one today! A little over a year ago, I was needing a creative outlet. Photography just wasn't cutting it. I wasn't inspired by who or what I was shooting, I was just going through the motions. I had a dream one night that I was supposed to be a blogger. Yeah, cheesy I know. But to be honest I didn't read blogs, so I am not even sure how the idea got in my head. Oh how things have changed. A year ago on this very day, Sweet Thing was born {named after my favorite Van Morrison Song}. At first I just wanted to share beautiful things with my friends and family. Eventually it took on a life of it's own and has been slowly building ever since. I have never devoted more of my time, energy and heart to anything before. But that's because I have never loved my work quite so much. Blogging has been the greatest gift of my life and the relationships I've formed with my readers and other bloggers has a lot to do with that. Thank you for visiting and for your insightful and loving comments. I adore you. OK, enough of that sappy stuff. Happy 1st Anniversary, it's time to celebrate! xx

My friend Jacqui and I attended the Rodarte exhibit at MOCA PDC this past weekend. Both the costumes they designed for the movie Black Swan and dresses from their recent runway collections are on display paired with light installations. It was quite a turn out. In eight years of living in LA I have never seen so many impeccably dressed people all in one place. I was totally inspired. I was so looking forward to photographing the fashion and of course the stunning detail of the exhibit, but alas, no photography allowed. The boyfriend and I have a love for modern architecture,  so on our way in to Palm Springs last weekend we stopped by the visitor center and picked up a map of noteworthy mid-century modern homes and buildings. Our last day in town we spent driving around, admiring all the vintage gems and imagining the Palm Springs life of the 50's and 60's. I borrowed this incredible vintage dress from my dear friend Kerry and  it fit right in with the scenery...

We are back from a delightful weekend in Palm Springs- To be honest we didn't want it to end. It was Miss Lilly's birthday, who you might remember from here, here and here. We all stayed on the Mediterranean side of the Korakia and insane amounts of fun and laughter ensued. The Korakia is romantic and relaxing. I loved roaming the property and photographing the little treasures around every corner. I embraced the Moroccan feel and wore a kaftan and a tie-dye turban to lounge by the pool...

SWEET STYLE. INDIAN WINTER

The boyfriend and I had quite an adventure filled Monday with our friends Phil and Afton. It started with a trip to the races at Santa Anita Park, something both James and I were excited to check out. We later got punch bowls at this amazingly kitsch tiki bar- Bahooka and ended the night playing trivia at The York. 
The races were so fun. James even won $5 on the horse Indian Winter, ha. It was 88 degrees out so I had to dress accordingly. I ended up finding this old f21 skirt in my closet and tried to channel 1950s Italy. Afton looked adorable in her day at the races/menswear/Annie Hall inspired outfit. How much do you love her vintage shoes?!...

I had been eying this wall on my way to work each morning for weeks. I knew I wanted to shoot something in front of it, but what? I remembered this dress I bought a while back from F21 and thought it might be perfect. The yoke on the dress resembled the pattern on the wall. SWEET STYLE. 50's BIRTHDAY PARTY {II}

Later on Saturday night we went out by the pool of the Chateau Marmont to snap a few shots and found Pierre, a gorgeous white cat who I believe belongs to the hotel. What a life! It was very Breakfast at Tiffany's. Later I had a little photo shoot with the girls on the couch, and then had my camera commandeered by Mr. Bochco (who took some real beauties. Thanks Jess!). What a fun night! I keep looking over the photos and reliving it all...
