Happy Monday! This weekend I got to sneak off to the desert for one night to see Divine Fits with friends. It was a seriously incredible show, which I'm sure had something to do with being so close we we're practically on stage. It was so much fun that I'm not feeling quite ready for a new week just yet. How was your weekend?

HAPPY WEEKEND

What a strange week. I can't help but think about so many of you still without water and power, including my sister who lives in lower Manhattan. What is nice to see is how you've banded together and are helping each other through this difficult time. It's hard to grasp exactly what's going on or what you're going through, being so far away, but you are all in my constant thoughts. This weekend I'm wishing you a little warmth, a lazy morning, some cozy socks and a comforting breakfast.

Happy All Hallows' Eve! How will you be celebrating my friends? We'll be staying in to pass out candy to kids, sip cider and continue our scary movie-watching rampage. Whatever you end up doing stay safe (I can't wait to see costumes on instagram)!

To all my friends and family affected by hurricaine Sandy- you are in my constant thoughts. I love you and I'm sending you hugs.

SNAPSHOTS FROM APPLE PICKING

It feels like James and I have opposite schedules these days, so on his day off we decided to make it special and go on a little adventure. I'd been wanting to go apple picking for quite sometime, but the closest places are not actually that close. Since we had the entire day, we drove out to Riley's Apple Farm in Oak Glen, which is about an hour and a half from LA. The property is gorgeous and we spent hours wandering the orchards and gardens. The leaves were changing and it truly felt like fall. On our way back to LA we stopped at Mom's Country Orchards, which is the most adorable country store. I stocked up on apple cider, apple butter and the best pickles I have ever had. I highly recommend a stop at Riley's and Mom's if you ever travel to Oak Glen.

**Sidenote: Now that I have so many apples, I'd love to start cooking with them. Do you have any favorite recipes?

LATELY

Happy weekend! Friday is here and I've got quite a packed weekend ahead of me. Tonight I'm celebrating a dear friend's birthday and tomorrow I've got a baby shower, a photo shoot and a Halloween party to attend. All fun stuff though. What about you, any plans for the weekend? James and I just went apple picking for the first time, and if you haven't been I highly recommend it. It felt great to get out of the city for the day and explore a new place. Here is a little look at my life of late and a few of the sweet things making me smile...

MEMORIES

To be honest, I couldn't think of anything to blog about today {sometimes that happens} so as Halloween draws near, I thought I'd share a family photo from Halloween circa 1992. My mom and I went as Ivana and Ivanka Trump and my dad went as our limo driver. I remember my mom let me wear false eyelashes and they were so heavy I could barely open my eyes. Oh and yes, I've pretty much had bangs on and off my whole life and as you can see dark brown is not my natural hair color. Do you have any favorite Halloween memories when you were a kid? What costume are you most proud of?

LET'S BAKE

one. nested baker set $99
two. wood cutting board $160
three. spades measuring cups $32
four. chandler in whisky tortoise $95
five. apron $56
six. falcon enamelware prep set £54.99
seven. rolling pin $70

It's that time of year, where all I want to do is pretty much live in the kitchen. I have never been much of a baker, but lately I have become consumed with it. I'm determined to be good/better at it. I always like the ability to improvise when cooking and I think the main reason I'm slow to come around to baking is the mathematics involved. But, I've got to say I'm quite enjoying the challenge of using more of my left brain. What about you, do you like the simplicity of following a recipe, or do you like to add/subtract ingredients as you go?

MONICA'S CHICKEN

Monica was a chef and a friend of my parents growing up. She created this recipe and soon my family adopted it as one of our go-tos. I used to beg my mom to make this. It was originally made with chicken drumettes, which is part of the wing, but they are harder and harder to find in the grocery store, so now I make it with regular sized drumsticks. I'm just warning you, these are addictive. They are perfect for a potluck or watching the game.
MONICA'S CHICKEN
{serves4}

2 packages of drumsticks {12 total}

2 tbs kosher salt
2 tbs lemon pepper
2 tbs garlic powder
2 tbs ground sage
2 tbs ground ginger
2 tbs paprika

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper {this makes clean up much easier} and sprinkle the lined sheet with kosher salt. Wash and pat dry the drumsticks and lay them out on the salted baking sheet. Salt the chicken and then generously sprinkle each drumstick in the lemon pepper, garlic powder, sage, ginger and paprika. Flip the drumsticks and cover the other side in the spices. You want every inch to be covered. Bake them in the oven for 45 minutes, flip them over and bake another 45 minutes until crispy.

SWEET. SWEETER. SWEETEST.

Sweet. Japanese Lantern Bunch $28
Sweeter. Wreath $88
Sweetest. Pumpkin Crate $68

How was your weekend my dears? Mine was quite lovely. I got to celebrate a friend's birthday and another friend's baby on the way. I have a baby shower to attend next weekend as well and I've got to say I sure love buying baby gifts. I think they're probably the most fun presents to buy, don't you? I also got a little holiday shopping out of the way. Believe it or not, I am almost finished altogether. I realize It's not even Halloween yet, but It feels so good to be ahead of the game. Especially since I have a lot of people to buy for, my boyfriend's birthday and our anniversary to think about. Do you like to get an early start on holiday gift buying or are you more of a last minute kinda person?

HAPPY WEEKEND

Happy friday! This week has been a little more low-key than usual, which has been nice. I've been cooking up a storm. Even though it's been in the 90's here, there is somethings about this time of year that makes me want to cook and bake and have friends over. I'm getting excited about Halloween, aren't you? One of my neighbors goes all out on the decorations and it always makes me smile when I pass his house. I have no idea what I'm going to be, but I always manage to throw something together last minute. What's in store for you this weekend? Do you have a costume yet?

2. Wool Biker Jacket $198
3. Toggle Coat $295
4. Wool Wrap Coat $650
5. Samantha Coat $350

Even though it's far too hot in LA for a jacket or coat, I can't stop thinking about them. It might have something to do with recently finalizing plans to spend New Years in snowy Lake Tahoe. I realize it's a while away, but it'll be the first time I've seen snow in four years so I'm extra excited.

SNAPSHOTS FROM OJAI

My time spent in Ojai was completely dreamy. Since Teissia was busy working and my other guests were late risers, I got to spend lots of time alone, taking in nature with my camera in hand. It was such a peaceful escape from the city. It reminded me how much I love living in Los Angeles and being so close to the desert, mountains, forests and ocean. Ojai is only an hour and a half away, but feels like another world.

Some of my favorite places & things to do in Ojai:
The best chai ever at The Farmer and The Cook
Pastries at Knead
Bart's Books
Boccali Ranch to pick out pumpkins
Coffee at Coffee Roasting Co.
The farmer's market for the most gorgeous produce and bread
Sunsets on Meditation Mount
A stop at Modern Folk Living & Hattie
Driving through beautiful upper Ojai

It might finally be time to order those gorgeous Senegalese baskets or that french bisto chair I've been eyeing.

SWEET. SWEETER. SWEETEST.

Sweet. Steven Andersin Booties $150
Sweeter. Naturalizer Onset Boots $119

Sweetest. Rachel Comey Mars Booties $395

Finding the perfect black ankle boot has proven harder than expected. The ideal heel height and the taper of the boot are both factors in deciding on a pair. Those Rachel Comey Mars booties have been on my list for quite sometime, but the price is a little hard for me to digest. One day I'll bite the bullet, but for now I really like the simplicity and the price of those "sweeter" boots. Do you have a favorite?

LATELY

Maybe it was my recent trip to Ojai or a mid-week concert with friends, but these last few weeks have seemed to fly by. Overnight it suddenly feels like fall in LA and I am starting to get excited about cozy dinners at home, the first fire of the season and spiced cider. There is nothing I love more than this time of year. I'm trying to take full advantage of these autumnal days, because I'm sure they wont last. Any fun plans for the weekend? For the first time in a long time I don't have any plans and I'm pretty thrilled about it. Maybe I'll catch up on all my blog reading or get a head start on holiday shopping. Here is a little look at my life of late and a few of the sweet things making me smile...
